Compatibility

Which bikes does the SKI RACK fit?

In principle, all bicycles have a top tube with a width between 33 mm (e.g. classic steel frame) and 57 mm (e.g. carbon frame with a large headset and typically e-bikes). If the SKI RACK is fixed on a narrower frame, the enclosed foam spacers are used.

Depending on the frame shape and ski length, the position of the front bracket can be optimized by pushing it forwards or backwards.

The rear bracket can be attached to all standard saddles (both 7mm round and 7x9mm oval), as long as there is still 15mm space behind the clamp head of the seat post (if not: push the saddle slightly backwards).

The distance between the lower edge of the saddle frame and the upper edge of the tire must be at least 16cm.

Which skis does the SKI RACK fit?

All types of skis can be attached to the SKI RACK: from narrow cross-country skis to extremely fat freeriders or split boards. We have even transported ski scooters (and garden tools) with it. Depending on the length and curvature of the ski, the position of the front bracket must be optimized by pushing it forwards or backwards. 

With very narrow touring or cross-country skis, the strap is threaded through the lower openings in the front bracket (see instructions for use).

Mounting 

How long does it take to attach the SKI RACK to the bike?

The rear bracket can be attached or detached in a few seconds.

The front bracket, where you have to put the belt around the top tube and then thread the edge clip and the buckle again, can be attached (or removed again) in a couple of minutes with a little practice.

How long does it take to attach the skis to the SKI RACK?

The skis are simply placed in the bracket mounts of the SKI RACK and fixed with the straps by closing three buckles. That goes as fast as putting them in the trunk.

What do I do with the ski poles?

The ski poles can simply be clamped between the skis with the handles first and lashed to the ski with the strap on the rear bracket. Telescopic sticks can of course also be put in the backpack.

What do I do with the ski boots?

One possibility (and the one we prefer) is to put on your ski boots for cycling. So they don't bother you anywhere else and your feet stay warm and dry. Modern ski touring boots also offer enough freedom of movement for this. 

The second option is to strap them to the binding. Since they protrude from behind the saddle, they do not interfere with cycling. To prevent moisture and dirt from getting into the inner shoe, bags should be put over the shoes. The disadvantage is the deteriorating driving dynamics with the additional weight on the ski.

The third option is of course to transport the ski boots on or in a backpack, but this clearly puts pressure on the shoulders and ischium during long journeys.
